Some of the Somaliland lawmakers have called for emergency help after a huge fire engulfed a forest in Sanaag region. Initial reports say the fire has been spreading swiftly and fire fighters haven’t been able to extinguish the fire majorly due to impassable roads.
The head of the British office in Hargeisa Lizzie Walker expressed deep concern about the forest fire in the Sanaag region and noted she hopes this could be brought under control quickly.
Additional reports say, The fire started two days ago but has rapidly spread to a 20-KM area overnight. It’s Unclear what caused the fire and so no casualties have been reported.
The government has not yet reacted to the matter. In April this year, Somaliland also experienced one of the worst devastating fires after the largest market in the country burnt down. The market still remains closed, though small businesses were permitted to operate in its surroundings.
