Somaliland ministry of defense said, a planned terrorist attack was successfully thwarted by vigilant security forces earlier Wednesday morning, at approximately 3 am local time.
According to the the ministry, six individuals belonging to a terrorist group, who were allegedly plotting a suicide mission, prematurely detonated explosives in the village of Sii-Hawle. This village is situated between Yagori and Samekaab, within the region of Sool and in close distance to Lascanod.
The Government statement added that two of the perpetrators lost their lives as a result of the premature detonation, while the remaining four managed to flee the scene. Somaliland authorities believe this incident serves as a stark reminder that “terrorist organizations” continue to pose a threat to the peace and security of Somaliland and the surrounding region.
Somaliland says it will not allow these acts of terror to disrupt the tranquility and progress they have achieved and their security forces remain steadfast in their dedication to protecting citizens and ensuring their safety.
