Khadra Dahir Ige, one of the most famous and legendary female artists in the Somali music scene, died at age 65 in Hargeisa. Her sudden death was confirmed by her family on Sunday July 2.
The late Khadar was born in 1957 in Hargeisa and joined the Waberi band in 1974 at the age of 17. During her nearly five decades-long career, Khadra is estimated to have recorded over 2,500 songs of love and sorrow which touched many Somalis.
Somali musicians, politicians and other members of the public extended condolences to the family and the Somali community for the loss of their loved legendary. They defined her as the finest musician in her generation.
Khadra was also an actress and acted in numerous stand up comedies. However, she later announced her decision to quit music after she realized it was against the Sharia. Khadra Dahir was recently living in the capital Hargeisa. She leaves behind five children.
