Somaliland lawmakers have introduced a motion during today’s session, proposing the complete independence of the national examination office from the Ministry of Education. The motion was put forth by 46 members of the House of Representatives.
In a statement clarifying the motion, Hassan Dhuhul Laabsaalah emphasized the significant impact that enacting new legislation to govern the national examination office would have on the state in the Horn of Africa. He further highlighted that the decision to pursue this motion was prompted by legal disputes that had negatively affected the office’s operational efficiency.
Subsequently, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Saed Mire Giirre, appointed a 7-member committee tasked with developing the initial draft of the proposed bill. This draft will be presented to the house on the upcoming Saturday, providing the members with the authority to either approve or reject it.
This recent bill follows a series of disagreements between the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the national examination board, although their disputes were ultimately resolved.
