

Somaliland National disability forum has launched the second phase of community mobilization project in Burao which is aimed at capacity building on fundamental rights of women with disabilities in the region.
The country’s national disability forum carried out similar projects in Hargeisa and expects to reach out to more other cities. The project which is sponsored by the Urgent Action Fund based in Nairobi, Kenya is aimed at giving special attention to women with disabilities.
Officials who delivered keynote speeches underlined the growing social challenges faced by women with disabilities including the physical environment that is not accessible to them and the negative attitudes towards the disabled.
The Chairman of the Somaliland National disability forum Dahir Abdi Hussein stated the importance of giving social platforms for the women with disabilities.
The Director general of Somaliland National disability forum Mohamed Ahmed Esse expressed optimism that this project would add much value to the efforts being made to empower women with disabilities across the country.
