The Somaliland National Electoral Commission has addressed the recent rejection by the Supreme Court in relation to a letter sent by the commission seeking legal clarification regarding the upcoming elections.
In a press conference held today, Chairman Muse Hassan Haji Yusuf of the National Electoral Commission acknowledged the court’s decision and clarified the commission’s intent to announce the timeline for the elections. However, he refrained from specifying the exact date of the announcement.
Chairman Muse Hassan defended the commission’s previous action of submitting a letter to the Supreme Court on July 4th, asserting that it was a standard procedure to foster cooperative working relations between the two entities.
These remarks were made subsequent to a meeting held on Tuesday between Chairman Muse Hassan, members of the electoral commission, and parliamentary representatives, with a primary focus on the upcoming elections.
This statement follows the dismissal by the Somaliland Supreme Court of the Electoral Commission’s request for legal interpretation on Monday, underscoring the significance of the National Electoral Commission’s forthcoming declaration of the election timeline.
