Abdirizak Khalif, the new speaker of Somalilnd house of representatives held a meeting with some of the Somaliland journalists in Hargeisa aimed to enhance the Press freedom in the country. The speaker stated he would hold government agencies and Private institutions accountable for press freedom.
He also urged the Journalists to keep and protect the media ethics when they are covering their stories and they must always be neutral. Abdizak Khalif also accentuated he will extend support to the Journalist during his term in office.
Last week, a number of journalists protested in Hargeisa after they were blocked from covering the handover ceremony of the new speaker of the house of representative. Journalists said only two Tv stations were handpicked to cover the event.
Some of the reporters who spoke to the media nearby where the event was going on have put all the blame on the outgoing secretary general Abdirizak Saed Ayanle and accused him for demonising media freedom to access information.
