SOMALILAND.COM – Somaliland opposition parties, Waddani and UCID, welcomed the president’s call for opening the registration of new political parties with a condition.
The two parties today held a joint press conference in Hargeisa to the president’s annual state of the nation address.
The leader of Waddani Party, Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan announced that the opposition parties welcome the early election of registration of new political parties with the condition of holding an early presidential election. He added that the laws of the country should also contain provisions for early elections.
On the other hand, Hersi Ali Haji Hassan criticized the president’s speech for not containing any plans for the future of the country. The opposition official wondered if the president had any plans for the future.
Hersi also slammed the president’s speech for lacking details on the most pressing issues facing the nation. He, in particular, lamented that the president went light on details when talking about the election. He stressed the president’s inability to resolve the electoral commission dispute, the Regional Parliamentary Allocations, WOMEN and Minorities QUOTA in the Parliament.
This new development from the president complicates the election impasse in the country. For the last two years in President Bihi’s administration ended without holding all due elections including the election of House of Representatives which did not happen in the past fifteen years.
