Somaliland Opposition parties oppose government’s announcement over registration of new political associations

The two opposition parties in Somaliland; WADDANI and UCID have firmly opposed the government’s announcement revealing that the political association law is effective and politicians can form new political associations.

This was disclosed by the country’s information minister, Sulieman Ali Yusuf Kore and declared that from now on politicians who are interested in the registration of political associations are now entitled to do so.

Barely a few hours later, the two chairmen of Waddani and Ucid parties held a joint press conference to respond to the latest development. They accused the government of breaching the law.

The two opposition parties stated the government made the announcement while the house of representatives are still debating on its enforcement following the President’s decision to return the law to the Parliament.

Some people are still demanding straight forward answers on why the government made this announcement despite the President clearly stating that this law is breaching the country’s constitution.
