Somaliland opposition parties have shared a letter demanding to hold protests across the country to the ministry of interior on sunday. They noted that the protests will take place on 11th August at the freedom parks and open places in all regions.
In a statement, they said their intention is for people to express their feelings about the upcoming elections and the current political situation in Somaliland. The opposition wants no other ballot to precede the 13 November presidential election.
However, President Bihi repeatedly underscored the political association election to come first before the presidential election. Several mediation efforts failed and still has no positive signal for the two sides to get back to the negotiation table in the following days.
Initially, the interior minister refuted and suspended opposition parties to hold protests citing that they had not provided the date and places the protests could take place. But, in this latest statement, Opposition parties clearly declared 11th August to be the date of their nationwide protests.
