Somaliland house of representatives have asked the President for the reappointment of 14 officials after their transitional term expired. The Speaker of the house Abdirizak Khalif who made the announcement said that the house will send the directive letter for reappointment to the President on 2nd January 2022.
The bylaws of the house states that members of the house can not approve an appointed official unless their names are submitted within three months to the house which the President has failed to follow the procedure.
The Speaker clarified that 13 days are past their mandate and the house has no authority to approve them. He said its time for the President to reappoint them. The officials include the foreign affairs minister Esse Kayd and the religious affairs minister Sheikh Abdurizak Al Baani.
It is not yet clear when the President will announce his reappointment or even whether he will engage another cabinet reshuffle as he is counting down the first days of his final year in tenure.
