Somaliland’s parliament session has been suspended today after the majority of the ruling party Mps boycotted to attend the venue. The house of representatives were expected to debate on the Political association law which the President returned to Parliament for amendments.
Majority of the ruling party Mps boycotted the venue and said the speaker of the house is hostage to the Speaker and accused him of abandoning neutrality as his role in the chamber.
The Protesting Mps told the house to take the responsibility of clarifying for the public that it is effective and whoever is interested in the registration of political associations are now entitled to do so.
The legal advisors to the house of representatives explained that the motion does not meet the legal requirements and recommended its suspension. The Speaker of the house eventually adjourned the session to Saturday and directed the protesting Mps to return to the rule of law.
Somaliland minister of information Saleban Ali Koore announced on Saturday that the political association law is effective yet the Parliament is disputing the enforcement of this law. Opposition parties rejected the announcement and blamed the government for “Breaching” the constitution.
