Yusuf Shaacir, a renowned poet from Somaliland, has expressed his deep concern and solidarity following the devastating fire that engulfed the largest market in the Somali region of Ethiopia. The incident resulted in extensive destruction of valuable properties, necessitating urgent assistance for the affected individuals.
Shaacir called upon individuals of Somali descent to unite and promptly provide support to those who have suffered significant losses in the fire. He stressed the importance of public engagement in delivering aid and actively participating in the reconstruction efforts for the market, which has played a vital role in the economic development of the region.
Recalling the assistance rendered by the Jigjiga city administration during the Waaheen market fire in Hargeisa a few years ago, Shaacir expressed his gratitude and appreciation. He acknowledged the substantial role played by the city administration in dispatching firefighters to extinguish the blaze at that time.
While the fire has been successfully contained and brought under control, the city administration has described it as a national disaster, underscoring the severity of the situation.
