Somaliland police officers have arrested Hibo Feisal in Hargeisa who allegedly exposed corruption related to the recent waheen market fire tragedy. Although the government officials did not declare any reason behind her arrest, it is widely believed to be related to her recent interview with CBA TV.
Hibo alleged that a police officer was engaging in what she described as ‘corruption’ and demanded bribes from defrauded fire victims by collecting $10 each to receive donated umbrellas. Hibo did not exactly name the police officer or reveal his identities in the interview.
She also strongly declined sending a direct request for help to President Muse Bihi’s administration; instead she called on the country’s business tycoons to help the Waaheen market victims.
Hibo Feisal however, cautioned the President and his interior minister not to dare postpone the Presidential election which is scheduled to take place on 13 November of this year by making excuses from the Wahen market fire incident.
Meanwhile, Waddani party has strongly condemned the arrest and demanded an immediate response from the government officials. The party said the whistleblowers should be encouraged not arrested.
In her latest videos she shared on her social media platforms before her arrest, Hibo said that she had received a number of calls threatening her life. She insisted on her statements accusing the police officer for corruption and said she has the right to express her opinion and feelings to the public without fear of harassment or prejudice.
