Somaliland police have released 29 prisoners from Mandhera Prison who were arrested in connection with the recent Las Anod protests.
The police affirmed their freedom was authorized by the interior Minister Mohamed Kahin and the Police chief Mohemd Adam (Dabagale), expressing gratitude they are going to reunite with their families. The police handed over the 29 persons to their traditional elders and politicians who hail from the city.
On the other side, Abdinaasir Jama Yusuf who is among the released prisoners has commended the police for treating them well during their imprisonment. He said they had no difficulties with the security personnel since day one of their arrest and expressed happiness for regaining their freedom.
Deaths and injuries were reported as an unspecified number of people were also arrested due to clashes between the police and protesters in Las Anod.
