The Somaliland political associations registration committee has announced today that the mandate of the current national political parties of Somaliland has expired on December 26 after 10 years of exercising the privilege.
The committee urged all political parties to respect, comply and fulfill all obligations resulting from the expiration of their mandate. However, the committee did not clearly state what the obligations could be in their statement.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have not yet reacted to the committee’s announcement as Somaliland gets ready for the upcoming voter registration process that will commence on 28 December as the national electoral commision and President Bihi announced in separate statements.
The president and the opposition parties both urged their supporters to participate in the upcoming voter registration process. However, the opposition parties still remain unwavering on their position in the political parties and associations’ election to come after the Presidential election as the president wants the political parties and associations’ election to come first.
