Thousands of Somaliland residents have gathered in Hargeisa and other major cities to offer prayers to Allah to send down rains and end the drought which has widely affected the country.
The muslim clerics who led the prayers urged the public to turn to God, repent, and offer more prayers as well as to forgive each other. Somaliland’s minister of religious affairs stated the importance of human beings to repent to Allah.
Islamic tradition prescribes special prayers for rain which has perennially been held especially in arid and semi-arid areas whereby practicing Muslims come out on a specially stated days hence hold the prayers for rain on open grounds.
Some residents in eastren parts of the country have recently reported water shortage and demanded help from the government institution, international and local organisations as soon as possible.
