Somaliland President Appoints New Diplomatic Representatives, Including UK Office

President of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a decree reshuffling key Somaliland Representative posts at the Foreign countries, including postings to the UK, Norway, Germany, and Saudi Arabia as well as Yemen.

President Muse has informed the Foreign Affairs Minister Yasin Haji Mohamoud Faratoon about the changes in the country’s foreign representatives.

Abdi Abdullahi Hirsi was appointed as the Somaliland Representative to the UK. He will replace popular representative Ms Ayaan Ashuur.

Salaan Hasan Kayd is appointed to Somaliland Representative to the European Union. Mr Kayd is the current Head of Somaliland Liaison Office to Ethiopia.

The president has selected Yusuf Mohamed Gulied Boodhle for Head of Somaliland Liaison Office to Ethiopia. And Barkad Mohamud Kaariye will be the new deputy head of the liaison office to Ethiopia.

Other notable nominations for Somaliland offices around the world include:

• Mustafa Yusuf Ismail will be the Head of SL liaison office to Germany
• Ali Ahmed Osman to be the Head of the Liaison Office to Saudi Arabia.

These nominations come a day later after Somaliland President appointed National Police Chiefs to replace the deceased Police Chief Major-General Abdillahi Fadal Iman and his ill-stricken deputy General Farah Mohamed Mireh.

Political commentators have called these current nominations as a response to some complaints of balancing power-sharing between Somaliland regions.
