President Muse Bihi has extended condolence to the families of six people who died after two vehicles collided in the outskirts of Hargeisa last night. Initial reports revealed 5 including three women died on the spot, but the President confirmed the death of the second driver making the death toll to six people.
President Bihi described it as “shocking and devastating news for six people to have died in the same accident”, pledging to enhance road security. He directed drivers to obey all traffic regulations including to lower their speed when it’s necessary.
The eight injured are now in Hargeisa general hospital for treatment though Somaliland traffic authorities did not disclose the identities of the victims to the public and the cause of the accident.
It is believed that over-speeding and the deplorable condition of the roads are the main factors causing an increased number of car accidents in the country. On several occasions, Somaliland authorities promised that they will manage the growing number of accidents in the country and will hold drivers accountable.
