The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi held a video conference with the UK minister of state for development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell over the LasAnod conflict which has been relatively calm in the past few weeks.
In a statement from the Somaliland Presidency, Bihi emphasized on his administration’s commitment to end the conflict and to adhere to a ceasefire citing that his government had taken various measures to lower tension and to restore peace and stability in the city.
President Bihi is hopeful the conflict will end soon and the situation will return to normalcy if the international community urges Somalia’s Puntland state to withdraw its troops from the region which Somaliland alleged is aiming to create a tribal border.
He also said Puntland’s intention to draw a clan border will have devastating effects on the security and stability of the Horn of Africa wider region.
