Hargeisa (CBATV) – Somaliland president Muse Bihi today received the six members of the National Electoral Commission at his office.
The presidential palace said president Bihi briefed the electoral commission on the challenges facing them and the controversy surrounding the commission members themselves.
According to the statement, the president told the commission members his commitment to expediently removing all the challenges of the poll. The controversial electoral commission is one of those roadblocks according to the mediation committee that called for its dismissal. That proposal was accepted by the government and the opposition parties.
This also comes a day after he met with the leaders of opposition parties UCID and Wadani to break the deadlock over the overdue elections. In a brief statement, the president’s office said the leaders discussed the most appropriate and plausible time for holding elections. The presidency added that opposition leaders and President Bihi discussed the proposals of the mediation committee that volunteered to break the prolonged deadlock.
According to CBA-TV sources, the president and opposition leaders agreed to implement the proposal of the mediation committee starting with the dismissal of the current electoral commission.
