Somaliland President Says the war will not end until Somaliland borders are left as it is

President Muse Bihi Abdi addressed a large gathering at the commemoration event of Somaliland’s 32nd anniversary of National Day, emphasizing the nation’s achievements since it withdrew from unity with Somalia.

In his remarks, President Bihi highlighted the remarkable progress made by Somaliland since declaring withdrawal from unity with Somalia in 1991. He emphasized the establishment of peace and stability within the region, which has allowed for the development of democratic institutions and the flourishing of civil society.

He praised the citizens of Somaliland for their resilience and dedication in building a prosperous and self-governing nation. President Bihi expressed his firm commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somaliland.

He firmly stated that the nation would spare no effort, regardless of the costs, to protect its borders from any encroachment. Notably, he singled out Puntland, a region in Somalia that has been a historical rival of Somaliland, as a key adversary.

In his address, President Bihi emphasized the importance of respecting international borders, citing it as a fundamental principle for maintaining peace and stability in the region. However, Bihi called upon the citizens to unite in the face of challenges and remain vigilant against external threats. He stressed that unity and solidarity among the people were vital to achieving national goals and ensuring the continued progress and prosperity of Somaliland.

This year’s 18th of May marks the 32nd Anniversary of the restoration of the independence from Great Somalia in 1991, after more than 30 years of unification between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
