The Somaliland government has described as “unacceptable” that the US ambassador to Somalia, Larry Andre endlessly disregards Somaliland by its proper name and instead refers to it as a regional part of Somalia.
In a statement from the country’s ministry of foreign affairs said, Larry Andry is “Lumping” Berbera with Somalia despite knowing fully well that Somaliland is a separate country from Somalia. The statement furthermore added, Referring to Somaliland as a region of Somalia is an affront to the dignity of Somaliland and its people.
In a brief statement, Somaliland Minister of foreign affairs, Essa Kayd said “ There is no room for confusion, Berbera is part of the Republic of Somaliland and Somaliland is not part of the failed state of Somalia.”
The ministry of foreign affairs stressess if Ambassador Andre has an ulterior motive. As has been the practice the Republic of Somaliland is always ready to cooperate with the United States.
The ministry’s statement came days after the US government stated their plans to conduct a multinational justified accord military training exercise at Berbera without mentioning the name of Somaliland.
