SOMALILAND.COM – The leader of Somaliland’s Justice and Welfare Party today expressed grave concern over the state of the nation.
Faysal Ali Warabe, the chairman of UCID party, said Somaliland has hit a low point that he had never imagined before.
The opposition leader returned home on Thursday morning from an extended trip to the United Arab Emirates. He made these remarks at a press conference flanked by officials from his party, and the Leader of Waddani party, Hersi Ali Haji Hassan.
Faysal announced that the two opposition parties, UCID and Waddani, will issue a joint statement on Saturday outlining their positions on the most pressing issues facing the nation.
The despondent remarks of the opposition leader come two days after president Bihi pronounced the death of the effort to resolve the dispute over the elections commission. In his annual speech to the parliament, President Bihi announced that the political parties failed to reach an agreement on the NEC issue. He announced opening the registration process of new political associations as a way around the deadlock.
That deadlock has led the country into an electoral impasse where most of the government branches lack popular mandate. The two chambers of the parliament and all local governments have now overstayed their elected terms.
