The Somaliland red crescent society has organized an awareness meeting together with ECHO PPP over the growing cases of Dengue fever in Burao, the second largest city in Somaliland. According to the officials the aim of the meeting was to educate the public for techniques to prevent and lower the cases of Dengue fever.
Explaining in depth, the Director general of Somaliland red crescent society in Burao accentuated that the spreading dengue fever has become a serious problem across the country, underlining that Burao became the second epicenter of the fever outbreak after Hargeisa.
He said he was also among those affected by the fever and had been sick for almost 10 days which resulted in his initiative to organize this awareness meeting. He expressed optimism that the meeting will play a key role in the community’s awareness.
A senior officer for Somaliland’s ministry of health urged the public to comply with the government’s directives to lower the cases of the fever. He revealed that the government has established prevention strategies to mitigate the fever.
Meanwhile, The Mayor of Burao Abdirisaq Hero extended gratitude to the organizers and praised them for giving more attention to the safety of the people in the Togdheer region. The Mayor claimed that people could control the fever if they fully comply with the health directives.
