Somaliland release detained journalist after two years in prison

Abdimalik Muse Coldon, a well-known social media activist, has been released today from the main prison in Hargeisa, after he spent two years in jail. Oldoon who addressed the media shortly after regaining his freedom said that he was arrested for giving awareness of what he termed as growing foreign cultures in Somaliland’s learning institutions.

He said the arrest would not stop him from telling his people the truth. However, he complained to the appeal court for rearresting him after the regional court found no guilt against him.

This was not the first time Abdimalik Coldoon has been in trouble with Somaliland authorities and had been charged with libel and slander against the administration. Abdimalik Oldon was arrested after he unearthed the story of a Nigerian female who is in Hargeisa as the president of Barwaaqo University and expressed his concern over her presence in the country for spreading christianity in the country, an allegation that was later on denied by the University management.

He has been arrested several times on various cases including his ideology of pan-somalism, the Abaarso School accusations, and being critical to the current government of Somaliland.
