The Somali Legendary singer and melodist, Omar Hassan Rooraaye was confirmed dead in Hargeisa. Many Somali people consider him one of the finest Somali artists in his era.
Rooraaye debuted his music in 1965 and was a co-founder of Horseed music band, he later joined the Waabari Music band, one of the Somali best music bands of all time.
Rooraaye’s career spanned over 50 years, with his most successful period being in the 1970s and 1980s.
He collaborated with many Somali reputable female musicians including Khadra Daahir Egeh, Sado Ali Warsame, Fadumo Nakruuma, Hibo Nuura and Qamar Harawo. Omar Hassan Rooraaye at the same time developed an interest in acting and appeared in over 20 performances.
Government officials including the Somaliland Minister of information, Suleiman Ali Koore has sent his condolence message to the family and Somali people upon the death of Omar Hassan Rooraaye.
