During a press conference held on Monday, Suleiman Mohamud Adam, the Speaker of the House of Elders in Somaliland, addressed various matters affecting the country. Among the topics discussed was the recent letter sent by the national electoral commission to the Supreme Court, along with the ongoing conflict in LasAnod and the devastating fire incident in Jigjiga’s market.
Delving deeper into the content of the letter, the Speaker highlighted that the national electoral commission sought a “legal interpretation” from the Supreme Court, without seeking to influence or make decisions on the upcoming elections themselves.
Suleiman Mohamud Adam expressed his confidence that the Supreme Court would provide a comprehensive legal interpretation to the national electoral commission.
However, the sequencing of the elections has been a subject of contention among various stakeholders since the previous year. While the Bihi administration and political organizations advocate for conducting elections for political parties and associations first, the two opposition parties contend that the Presidential election should take precedence.
