Somaliland government has suspended CBA TV, one of the leading private media houses from operating in its territory citing that the license of the television was expired as well as that it broadcasted information that could trigger insecurity in the country.
However, the Director general of CBA, Hussein Jama has denied the allegations in strong terms, urging the ministry of information to reconsider its decision. Hussein Jama hightled the suspension of CBA’s office in Hargeisa could be a threat to the country’s media freedom.
The Director General of CBA accentuated that the TV station will tirelessly continue for serving the community with its bold and impartial editorial system.
Somaliland government arrested more than 20 journalists this year alone. Most of them were arrested in April for covering Hargeisa prison chaos. In July, Somaliland also indefinitely suspended all BBC activities in its territory. A move that has been condemned by the advocates of media freedom.
