Somaliland Vice President Attends Women Inclusion Conference

Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Saylici has on Wednesday attended the women council elections conference, which commenced early morning in Hargeisa . The vice president intends to show his support for Somaliland women aspiring to be candidates in the upcoming elections.

During the conference, some of the women aspiring candidates and other dignitaries shed light on the pressing problems facing female candidates in the country. They also highlighted the role of women in national development.

In his remarks, the vice president said that this conference is aimed at empowering women to participate in politics especially this forthcoming elections and advised them to challenge the men candidates.

He also recounted that the government put more effort into women to take part in politics and decision making in the country and proposed the women quota to the parliament though later the parliament rejected it.

Somaliland is expected to hold parliamentary and local council elections on 31 May this year 2021.
