Somaliland’s human rights center has presented an annual report on the human rights situation in the country. The report covered areas such as violation of freedom of expression, censorship of journalists, and police brutality.
The human rights center revealed that it has recorded the highest number of arrests for freedom of expression in this ending year and urges the government security agencies to avoid breaching the country’s constitution and protect the rights of individuals.
The chairlady of Somaliland Human rights center Yasmin Omar announced that the government arrested 13 journalists, 10 opposition figures and 114 individuals for expressing their opinion. She described all these detentions as “unconstitutional.”
According to officials, the human rights center also recorded this year a number of cases against women rights and the internally displaced community and urged the government to take the responsibility of protecting them.
