The International partners of Somaliland held a call meeting with President Muse Bihi over the upcoming elections. They expressed concerns about the lack of the dialogue between Somaliland’s key political stakeholders over the upcoming elections as President Bihi’s official tenure ends a few days after.
In a statement, the international partners stressed the need to secure political consensus on the electoral road map and the importance of freedom of expression and non violent policing. A move immediately welcomed by the opposition parties.
They noted President Bihi’s commitment to hold the elections in line with the technical timeline proposed by the National electoral commission. However, the statement did not clarify if the President gets ready to hold the Presidential election first or to combine the two elections as the house of representatives, voluntary mediation committee and opposition parties recommended.
Further, the international partners revealed President Bihi’s intention to engage in talks with the opposition parties in the coming days.
