Somaliland’s top diplomat Essa Kayd has met with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen for the first time since he was appointed as foreign minister.
During the meeting, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen noted that Somaliland and Taiwan are like minded partners who shared the values of democracy. She said Somaliland is in a strategic location which could help Taiwan government for the implementation of developmental projects in Africa.
In her closing remarks, she expressed optimism that the Somaliland President will visit Taiwan so that the ties between the two countries can continue to deepen in the future.
On the other hand, Somaliland’s foreign Affairs minister Essa Kayd delivered a message of goodwill from the President of the Republic of Somaliland Muse Bihi to his counterpart and the people of Taiwan.
The Minister noted that Somaliland-Taiwan relations characterizes special and historic relations between two champions of Democracy in Africa and Asia.
He also stated that as a sovereign state Somaliland has a right to engage in peaceful and friendly relations with all other nations.
