UCID party has become the first and only political party to have endorsed the recommendations made by a voluntary mediation committee spearheaded by businessmen to resolve a months-long political impasse in Somaliland over the upcoming elections.
The committee had asked the parliament to enact a new law that would allow the combination of both presidential election and political associations in what many people believe is a win-win solution.
The Chairman of UCID party Feisal Ali Waraabe said his party has decided to support the committee’s suggestion, Feisal said he made the announcement after a long consultation with the senior members of his party.
The Chairman urged the parliament to expedite the implementation of the process, asking President Muse Bihi to encourage the MPs of the ruling party for endorsement. The remaining two political parties; Kulmiye and Waddani have yet to make the choice to either endorse or decline it.
