As a Pan African higher learning institution, the Unity University’s strong vision is to foster unity in diversity across the African continent. It is therefore not surprising that the Unity University in Somaliland is leading with exclusive offer of various courses based on scholarships through PLO Lumumba Foundation to many African students.
Taken by experienced lecturers, the idea of introducing Swahili language is to teach African cultures, enhance interracial harmony and present potential opportunities to the students. The Unity University strongly believes that affording the students a rare option of learning Swahili as Pan African language provides opportunities for scholarship and student exchanges.
There is no denying the fact that African cultures have influenced the world, and the Swahili language originated as a commercial language through contact with locals and Arab traders arriving from the Middle East.
From their arrival in East Africa, Arabs brought Islam and set up madrasas, where they used Swahili to teach Islam to the natives.Today, it is estimated that between 100 and 200 million people speak Swahili as a second, third and even fourth language.
