Somaliland’s main opposition political party Waddani has on Sunday condemned the torture of female journalist Hoodo Garays with her mother on saturday in qudhac dheer police station in Hargeisa.
Mohamed Sadiq Dhamme has described the move as a shameful act and a violation to civilian human rights. He emphasized that Police stations were intended to be a place of justice not a place of hell and to toture the innocent civilians.
Waddani urged the police officers to treat the public with decency and show respect to their civilians instead of creating animosity. The party asked the central government to react to this case and bring the police officers involved before justice.
On Saturday, Hoodo Garays who is a female journalist accused the Somaliland police of torturing her and her mother after they went to report a case to the police station. She recounted that she and her mother have severe inner injuries on her body that she can’t show on camera.
The government has not yet commented on this case while the opposition party Waddani and the family of Hoodo Garays urged them to react to this case as soon as possible.
