Somaliland’s youth demand government to create more jobs

Somaliland youths are complaining about the growing rate of unemployment in the country and that more University graduates are still looking for job opportunities as the government recently announced 70% of the people are unemployed.

CBA talked to some of the residents living in Hargeisa. Many of them expressed dissatisfaction that local companies and organizations hire foreigners despite there being citizens who can do the job.

They asked the government to establish strict strategies to lower the dependency of foreign workers in the country and create more jobs for the youth. Others noted that the nation could prosper if youth gets fair job opportunities.

They also believe that tribalism is among the main factors influencing the nation’s rising rate of unemployment, urging the public to desist from such norms and make equal opportunities for the youth.

Three days prior, the Vice President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici) expressed dissatisfaction that 70% of Somaliland youth are currently unemployed. He believes the increased rate of unemployment is due to mistakes coming from within the community.
