

Taiwan is hosting Somaliland’s top diplomat Esse Kayd and other ministers who traveled from Hargeisa on Monday evening. According to the Somaliland’s ambassador to Taiwan Mohamed Hagi, the meeting is fostering the mutual interests between the two countries.
Taiwan’s foreign affairs ministry said that the Somaliland delegation will be in Taiwan from Tuesday to Saturday and will be having talks with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen as well as other top officials.
Taiwan and Somaliland set up representative offices in each other’s capitals in 2020. Both China, which claims Taiwan as its own, and Somalia have expressed their opposition to Taiwan and Somaliland’s forging of ties.
Taiwan has been keen to show it is a selfless development partner for Somaliland and last month donated 150,000 doses of its domestically developed Medigen COVID-19 vaccine.
