Thousands of people in Somaliland are facing starvation and water shortage as drought widely affects most of the country. Both humans and livestock are at risk due to water shortages in rural and urban areas.
Despite the government efforts to mitigate the drought, a large number of people have fled their homes in search of food and water. CBA TV met some of the victims who said they are facing starvation amid the severe droughts widely spread across the country.
In Daba goryaale, there is no pasture and water for livestock . The residents are calling for emergency assistance from the government or else people will die of starvation. According to them, the few water suppliers in the area fetch water from remote villages which is costly making the water too expensive for people to afford it.
The hike in fuel prices have had a significant impact on all other basic needs including the water price which resulted in many people living a desperate life.
In the beginning of this year, Somaliland government announced a technical committee drawn from various government institutions to tackle this widespread disaster and called on the public to take part in efforts to extend support to those affected by the drought.
