Thousands of Somalilanders from all regions of the country gathered in Hargeisa to participate in the burial and prayers for the deceased chief, Haji Abdikarim Hussein Yusuf (a.k.a Abdi Warabe).
The burial is attended by Haji Abdi’s family with President of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, Vice President Hon. Abdirahman Zaylie, former president Ahmed Silanyo, government ministers, parliamentarians, the chairmen of opposition parties of Waddani and UCID, religious leaders, other dignitaries and thousands of citizens who respected him as a wise and tolerant elder.
All the officials reiterated that Haji Abdikarim, 122, devoted all his life in resolving conflicts and creating peace in a traditional way.
Haji Warabe was a member of Somaliland’s Upper of House of Parliament (Guurti) and was regarded as a symbol of peace and reconciliation in Somaliland since the colonial era through to its independence in 1960 and autonomy from neighboring Somalia in 1991.
Haji Abdikarim died yesterday after a century of service for the Somalis as the chief, community leader, and a peacemaker.
