Hundreds of people putting red ribbons on their heads have attended a state funeral that was held for those who died on 11th August protests that claimed the lives of at least 7 people. The three people who died in Hargeisa received on Wednesday their last respect from the public including the leaders of the opposition.
The Presidential candidate of Somaliland’s largest opposition party Abdirahman Irro described the people who died as “Martyrs”and prayed to God to reward them in heaven. His party had stated that they will continue with the protests after the funeral but the candidate did not mention it in his speech.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted between security guards of the Somaliland’s livestock ministry and angry mourners after the minister unprecedentedly arrived at the funeral. Videos show the angry mourners ousting the minister from the burial.
Some Scenes show a woman kicking the minister at the back while the security guards firing bullets in the air to prevent him as well as to disperse the angry mourners. The minister finally decided to leave the funeral as his car was damaged.
