The Togdheer regional administration of Somaliland has announced that from Eid day there will be a temporarily ban on youth trips outside the territory unless permitted by their parents.
The regional officials said this is to prevent youth of mixed opposite gender from interacting improperly especially going to beaches for swimming as well as hosting parties and music concerts. Hotel managers also warned against hosting any activities that are prohibited by the muslim culture including music shows.
In their remarks, the security officers also pledged that they will implement the outcome of the regional administrations’ meeting and will deploy security forces at all the checkpoints to ensure that no youth travels outside the region.
The togdheer region is one of the most strict region of Somaliland especially when it comes to upholding Islamic practices. They previously banned all music shows and closed down some hotels that broke the law.
On Thursday, Somaliland people will mark the first day of eid al fitr which is the festival of breaking the fast.
