Top Opposition Officials Arrested in Somaliland, WADDANI Calls for Peaceful Protest

Hargeisa- (Somaliland.com) – Somaliland police have arrested top opposition officials in Hargeisa, on Sunday evening.

Waddani, the main opposition party of Somaliland, has confirmed that its Secretary-General, Khadar Hussein Abdi and party Spokesman, Barkhad Jama Batuun, have been detained by police forces in different places.

Waddani Chairman Abdirahman Mohamed Irro has condemned the arrest calling it unlawful and aggressive act, in his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

On Sunday morning, Waddani Chairman Mr. Irro called opposition supporters to gather party’s Headquarters in the eastern part of the capital Hargeisa.

Waddani officials called the gathering peaceful to share information and recent developments in the electoral commission dispute.

On another side, newly appointed Police Chief, General Dabagale, has announced that the called gathering/protest is unlawful and the police forces will not allow any public demonstrations.
