Two children died after drowning in stagnant water in Hargeisa where they were swimming. Initial reports say three other children sustained severe injuries and are in critical condition. They have been admitted at a hospital in Hargeisa for treatment.
A father to one of the children who died, Hirsi Mohmoud Adam, sadly described the incident as a “tragic loss” and prayed for quick recovery for the other children.
Residents urged the local authorities to monitor such endangered locations in the country. Meanwhile, Yasin Omar Abdi, an aspiring local council candidate who arrived at the scene noted that local authorities must put in place measures that will prevent such incidences in future.
He also urged them to keep a close eye on Qudhac dheer and Daami dams as the rainy season begins in the country. This is not the first time children have died from water wells or even stagnant water.
