

The Welfare and Justice party UCID called on the government to immediately release the party’s secretary of the interior Mohamud Ali Suleiman Ramaah.
The spokesman of the UCID party, Yusuf Keyse, said Mr. Ramah should be released since the suit against him was dropped.
In a press conference today, UCID party’s spokesperson said Mr. Ramah is illegally held in custody for the ninth day. He called on the government to immediately release Mr. Ramah without conditions.
Yusuf Keyse argued that the charges against his colleague should be dropped since the speaker of the House of Representatives withdrew his case.
On Thursday, the defense lawyers of Mr. Ramah quit over alleged irregularities in the suit against their client. the lawyers argued that the case against Mr. Ramah has ended with the plaintiff withdrawing his case.
The office of the prosecutor-general charged Mr. Ramah with three criminal counts. The first two are related to sedition and propagating false reports against government agencies. The third charge is defaming the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Bashe Mohamed Farah. The charge sheet came out a day after the speaker announced that he’d dropped his suit against UCID party’s official.
On the other hand, Yusuf Keyse alleged that the government is using the judicial system to intimidate and harass the opposition. The spokesperson of UCID party lamented that even the director-generals of ministries are now threatening people with lawsuits.
