Somaliland’s UCID party has demanded the immediate release of Ahmed Osman aka Addo Gude who is one of the traditional elders in Somaliland. The party called upon the government to release him without preconditions. The party said the arrest of the Addo Gude by the security agencies was “Unconstitutional” and violated individual rights.
Talking to CBA, the press secretary of UCID party, Yusuf Kayse Abdillahi, believes that this is one of the additional steps the government is taking to oppress the people, recounted previous detentions of journalists and politicians.
He said the arrest of the traditional elders will not bring a solution but could only complicate the situation and urged Bihi’s administration to avoid arresting the community leaders without strong justifications.
The police arrested the Sultan two days ago and yet the administration has not spoken about his arrest publicly. Sultan Addo Gude has been a critic of Bihi’s administration in recent years. He appeared on TV cameras last week condemning the government for killing “Peaceful” demonstrators in major towns of Somaliland.
