UCID Party discloses illegal land grabbing in Hargeisa

Hargeisa (Somaliland.com) – Somaliland opposition party UCID wants president Muse Bihi to stop illegal construction of a multi-storey building in a land that belonged to Sheikh Bashir primary school in Hargeisa.

The construction of the story building has been suspended a number of times by the Ministry of Education, however, the construction of the building is now on the last stages.

Concerns have been raised by the country’s oldest party UCID which now wants President Muse Bihi to intervene and stop the private developer from building on land belonging to  Sheikh Bashir primary school.

The school is located at the heart of Hargeisa, at Gargaar junction of the Road-One.

The chairman of the central council of UCID party, Jirr Ali Madobe, wants the building to be brought down. He urged the government to use the facility for the construction of a football stadium or a library.

He added that it is very sad for public property to be turned into business premises when the need for the construction of classrooms is alive in Sheikh Bashir Primary schools.

“The government should intervene, especially the ministry of Education. Mr. President, you have done a lot, but on this one, you must intervene. This is a public institution where our young children go to schools. If we are not building more classrooms or stadiums then it should be left as it were”.

Earlier the house of elders briefly discussed the matter when a motion on Education was tabled in the hose.

The ministry of Education meanwhile has ordered the private developer to stop the construction of the building.

Somaliland schooling standards have undergone unpredictable situations since it reclaimed its independence from the rest of what was formerly known as the Somali Democratic Republic in 1991, a large section of younger adults are growing up without access to high-quality standards of the basic education.
