Somaliland justice and Welfare party, UCID, has today sacked its interior secretary Mohamud Ali Suleiman Ramah and Secretary of the central council, Mohamud Ali Muuse Jiir.
According to a statement released by the opposition party, the two officials were sacked in a vote held by the executive committee of the party.
The secretary of the interior is officially fired effective immediately, but the central council secretary is suspended until the next conference of the central council in August this year.
The dismissal of the two officials follows their remarks on the registration of new political parties which contradicted the official stand of their party. Mohamud Ramah went further than endorsing the president’s decision and announced he was working on reviving the old UDUB party.
Both opposition parties, UCID and Waddani have objected to the registration of political parties announced by president Bihi two years ahead of schedule. However, that did not stop some politicians from those parties to endorse the president’s call.
The snap registration of political parties was abandoned on Thursday when president Bihi and opposition parties reached an agreement over the National Elections Commission.
Mr. Ramah and Mohamud Jiir are the first to pay price for their premature support for the president.
