

The Head of the British Office in Hargeisa Stuart Brown, has stressed the need to protect the rights of women and children in Somaliland as the chunk of the horn of African country’s population has more women than men. The call came at a meeting with the Somaliland minister of religious affairs.
In his official twitter page, Stuart Brown expressed his delight to have met Somaliland’s new Minister of Religious Affairs. He said “Look forward to working with Sh. Abdirisak on shared interests like protecting the rights of women and children, tackling extremism in all its forms and promoting peaceful coexistence”.
Somaliland Gender Gap Assesment 2020 concludes that the gender gap runs deep, with women comprehensively disadvantaged as compared to men in terms of economics, politics and education.
Research says the major cause for alarm is not only are women negatively impacted, but families, communities and the broader Somaliland are also missing out on much of the potential that can be gained by greater inclusion and empowerment of women
