Somaliland’s Waddani party condemned the arrest of 76 youth on Monday night in Burao after they gathered on the streets in support of the statements made by the opposition leaders to consider President Bihi and his cabinet “as illegitimate.”
Elaborating more on the prisoners, the party’s Justice secretary Yonis Ahmed Yonis said some of the prisoners got wounded after the police fired at them and described the move as unfortunate and unacceptable.
Yonis Ahmed Yonis accused the police of Somaliland and Bihi’s administration of illegally arresting individuals who speak about the current political turmoil including the journalists and youth. He believes the recurrent arrests will not bring solution to the prolonged political turmoil.
The Secretary said that a total of 321 people got arrested and 7 people killed under Bihi’s administration and regrets that no one has been accountable for the responsibility of these crimes.
